I do believe we have artifacts that could prove we are the lost colony plus through DNA. I have a lot of pottery from the old Indians. My mom has a lot of the pipes settlers pipes and Indian pipes we have found through the years there is a grave on Cedar Island back in the 50s they wanted to dig up to prove that this was the island but our people was so clannish and I understand now why they didn’t want the foreigners to move in on their little island And now I know why cause they always always want to change. Growing up in the 70s and 80s on that island. I’d always say when I was away even in Beaufort and Morehead I’m from Cedar Island and everybody will say where is that at no one knew about this island not many people until the Internet Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4035625532838324426.post-11500189594155079222023-12-01T14:03:19.089-06:002023-12-01T14:03:19.089-06:00I agree with your mother. He wrote of Johnson's Island "This is a much better prison than Fort Delaware. It is a large enclosure of about 16 acres fenced in with plank about 20 feet high, around the top of which is a walk or parapet for the sentinels to wonk on to guard us. There is 13 large two story frame houses inside of this pen for our quarters and we get tolerable good rations her, but not quiet enough of bread. We draw bread, meat (which is beef for five days of the week and pickled port for two days)coffee of chicory, sugar, beans, peas, rice, hominy. The four last we alternately each week and in very small quantities, also candles, soap and vinegar. There is a sutler her where anything I want can be bought, but having no greenback I have to do without."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4035625532838324426.post-88578716941218963202020-05-03T18:49:05.845-05:002020-05-03T18:49:05.845-05:00Not sure if this blog is active anymore, but Johnn...Not sure if this blog is active anymore, but Johnny was probably my dad's best friend into adulthood. As kids the neighbors told of Emeline and how she still haunted and walked the land at night. Many nights I spent listing for sounds, hearing something go bump in the night and lay away wondering if it was her ghost. Have you heard anything about this in your research? Thank you for posting photos of her and the history behind this land. I grew up on the shores of Calico Creek. At night when the seas got rough, we could hear the roar although we were a good mile from them. At high tide the creek sometimes looked like a lake, sometimes flooding the back yard a few feet. That part of living on Calico Creek hadn't changed since the days Emeline lived on its banks too. Thanks again, Daniel T.
